A Little About Me

I joined the University of Minnesota as an undecided Engineering major with Calc 3 already under my belt, and immediately knew it wasn’t for me and transferred into Graphic Design on a whim. Best choice of my life.

I hadn’t taken an art class since 8th grade, so it forced me to match the pace of all the other talented people in my class. Being pushed like that helped me grow fast. My STEM education served me well, layouts became natural, color theory a piece of cake, and design psychology made perfect sense.

On top of all that I took up Costume and Scenic Design classes after I started working in the Scene shop for the University’s Theater program. Adding an incredibly diverse skillset to my design knowledge.

My Work Thoughout the Years

Year 1

Year one was scary to say the least, we were learning all these new tools and concepts. This was the first time that I had to start thinking like a designer. While the Dinosaur project was mainly teaching myself to use Illustrator, the main beast was the Florida Project poster. This was my first ever experience with the design process, getting ideas torn down, but by the end of it having a product I can be proud of.

Year 2

Year two was exciting, we began moving into more fleshed out designs. Like the album, which was a front and back cover, inner sleave and the record. I became very well acquainted with the design process as well as how to design with others. For example the Minnesota Fire Museum campaign, where me and my teammate Sadie Quimby won a the opportunity to have our campaign run by the Fire Museum, sadly it fell through, but it was still very validating.

Year 3

Year three things diversified, I took Web and Ux classses, Packaging classes, Costumes, Scenic, and Scenic Paint classes. In my Ux classes we made a number of Figma mock ups for Web, Mobile and AR. While scenic paint class might’ve been the most helpful Photoshop class I could take, learning how to do it in real life really helps the digital skillset as well.

Year 4

It’s crunch time now.

Year four has been a lot, with highly detailed screen print projects, like the bandana, my 10,000 word Thesis that could really use another proof read, an entire board game, and of course my senior exhibition which I’m in the process of making. If this fourth year has taught me anything it’s that I work, hard.
